Thanksgiving – Buttermilk Mashed Potatoes

Thanksgiving – Buttermilk Mashed Potatoes

From The Gallery

Fresh chives and garlic add a savory taste to these smooth and creamy potatoes. This homemade recipe takes only 30 minutes from start to finish, making your mashed potato side dish something you don’t need to stress over. Enjoy the smiles and wows.

4 pounds Yukon gold potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
1 cup buttermilk
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup butter
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/4 cup chopped fresh chives
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Place the potatoes in a Dutch oven with cold water to cover and 1 tablespoon salt. Bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat, turn the heat to medium-low, and simmer, uncovered, 10 to 15 minutes or until the potatoes fall apart easily when pierced with a fork.

Meanwhile, in a small saucepan heat the buttermilk, milk, butter, and garlic over low heat. Make sure it doesn’t boil. Keep the liquid warm until the potatoes are done.

Drain the potatoes in a colander, then transfer them to a large bowl. Using an electric mixer, whip the potates while slowly pouring in the hot buttermilk mixture. Add enough of the mixture to make the potatoes creamy. You may need more or less buttermilk depending on how dry or wet the potatoes are. Mix in the chives, 1 teaspoon salt, and pepper. Season to taste. Garnish with additional chives, if desired.

Makes: 20 servings
Serving Size: 1/2 cup

Into the Throne Room of God

Into the Throne Room of God
by William S. Phillips

Thunderstorms can be unpredictable. They rise upward with one heaving bulge after another until they spread into a stratospheric anvil top. They block the way of an aircraft with deep purple curtains, or even worse, with green walls that crackle and glow with lightning. Sometimes an F-14 Tomcat like this one follows holes and corridors past the storm’s lurking dragons and into a strange, quiet cathedral of cloud. Here shafts of sunlight find gaps and flood through with rich golden colors as though they’d struck stained glass windows. The cumulus seems almost welcoming here, soft and bright. There’s a patch of blue sky above, so this is part of the world, even though it looks like dream country.

“This quiet awesome place surrounded by great power is God’s throne room,” says the artist, “where pilots and artists sometimes come to pay their respects.”

Jersey and Sports Memorabilia

The framing of sports jerseys is a very labor-intensive process that requires very skillful and precise placement, pinning and couch mounting of the jersey for the framing to stand the test of time. In particular, we very carefully secure the jersey to the backing using needle and thread while being careful not to damage the jersey in any way. The jersey can also be un-mounted for ease of cleaning or for future sale by simply clipping the threads. We have framed football, hockey and baseball jerseys, military and police uniforms.

Double-sided frames are unique in presenting your art or collectible in a frame that allows it to be visible from both sides. We have developed techniques and moldings to make that possible and attractive. Though the majority of framing projects are simple—for instance, an image with a mat to enhance the work and a complimentary frame. But at The Framing Gallery we offer much more. Shadowboxes showcasing military awards, collectible records, jewelry, dresses and sports jerseys. (Even some of these can be framed double sided so that both sides can be seen).
